Sunderland supporters laugh off Jack Ross Newcastle United move with 'fall' from grace jibes

Sunderland supporters have laughed off Jack Ross' move to Newcastle United to work with the club's academy as they revelled in what they saw as a clear fall from grace.

Newcastle announced on Friday morning that Ross had arrived as the academy's interim Head of Coach Development on a "short-term basis". A club statement confirmed that he will work alongside Director Steve Harper to provide support to the Academy's coaching structure and players in the Under-9 to Under-16 age groups.

"Jack is a very experienced manager, coach and coach educator," Harper said following the arrival of Ross. "His knowledge and experience will be of huge benefit to us during his time here."

Ross was appointed as Sunderland boss back in May 2018. His first full season in charge of the Black Cats would see him lead the club to the final of the League One play-offs before they would eventually lose to Charlton Athletic in heartbreaking fashion in the 94th minute.

Sunderland went on to part ways with Ross just a few months into the 2019/20 season following a 2-0 loss to Lincoln City that saw them sit sixth in League One. The club's former manager has now traded Wearside for Tyneside to team up with the academy of bitter rivals Newcastle.

As the news of Ross' move emerged, it did not take long before fans took to social media to point out what they saw as a clear step down from their former head coach.
