Sunderland striker Ross Stewart has earned a long-awaited call-up to the Scotland squad for their international double-header.
The 26-year-old is the leading goal scorer in League One this season but is yet to receive a cap for the Tartan Army. Stewart made a £300,000 switch from Ross County and has repaid his transfer fee tenfold - bagging 22 league goals to spearhead the Black Cats’ promotion charge.
He gets his chance after missing out on Steve Clarke’s original 25-man setup, with QPR striker Lyndon Dykes forced out of the squad due to injury. Sunderland fans have called for Stewart to get his chance on the big stage for a while and now he finally gets his chance.

Scotland were originally scheduled to face Ukraine at Hampden Park in a crucial World Cup playoff but the ongoing conflict with Russia has halted those plans. Instead, Stewart could feature against Poland on home soil before a trip to either Austria or Wales next Tuesday.
Elsewhere, Newcastle United winger Ryan Fraser was a big Scottish omission despite being nominated for the Premier League’s player of the month award. The 28-year-old pulled out of the squad in November was pictured training with the Magpies squad a few days later.
Craig Halkett and Zander Clark also come in for the Scott McKenna and David Marshall.
