Sunderland still hopeful of signing PSG's Edouard Michut despite stalled deal

Sunderland's move for Paris St Germain midfielder Edouard Michut is not dead - but there is currently a stand-off between the clubs. Michut's move to Wearside - on loan with an option to buy - was expected to be confirmed over the weekend after he was spotted in the directors' box on Saturday to watch the Black Cats' game against Norwich City.

But PSG tried to change the terms at the last minute and Sunderland refused, meaning the 19-year-old headed back to the French capital. The initial deal remains on the table, however, and if PSG are prepared to revert to what was originally agreed between the clubs, Michut could still join Sunderland before Thursday's transfer deadline.

Since his move to Sunderland stalled, 19-year-old has been linked with French Ligue 2 sides Caen and Le Havre although, according to a report in France, Caen's director of recruitment Yohann Eudeline has since ruled his club out of the running. Sunderland are one of several clubs said to have expressed interest in Michut, although one of those - Celtic - later dropped out of the race for his signature.
