Sunderland star earns international recognition as stunning football rise set to have crown jewel

Former Albion Rovers striker Ross Stewart is set to crown his rise up the football ladder with a call-up to the Scotland national team.

The Daily Record report that the Sunderland forward is to be given the nod after an an impressive 22 goals this season, by far his best tally.

Scotland head coach Steve Clarke will now invite him to link up with his Scotland squad for a friendly with Poland at Hampden later this week.

It represents a crowning moment in what has been a sharp rise up the football ladder for Stewart.

After plying his trade in junior football with at Ardeer Thistle and Kilwinning Rangers, he joined Rovers in 2016, and his Cliftonhill form earned him a move to St Mirren a year later.

Stewart joined Sunderland in January 2021 and is now a key player for the Stadium of Light side.
