Sunderland's Vaux taproom broken into after gates are 'rammed' with vehicle

A brewery and taproom in Sunderland has been broken into after intruders "rammed" their way into the premises.

The Vaux taproom on Monk Street, Monkwearmouth, has been broken into, with damage caused to the gates of the premises. It is not yet known if anything was stolen during the incident but police inquiries are ongoing.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 7am this morning (Monday), we received a report of a break in at a premises on Monk Street, Sunderland. Enquiries into the incident are on-going.”

Posting on social media, Vaux taproom said they will be continuing to operate for the rest of the week, despite the break in. The post read: "Not the Monday morning we were hoping for! The brewery was broken into last night by some scumbags who rammed the gates with a vehicle to gain entry. We’re still assessing the damage.

"We’ll be racking beer tomorrow as normal so anybody in trade wanting beer, fear not, we will be operating as usual for the rest of the week."

No arrests have been made.
