Sunderland's Dennis Cirkin is a target for Brentford, according to a weekend report - with his former club Spurs also monitoring the defender. Cirkin returned to action yesterday after a month out with a hamstring injury, and he marked his comeback with an assist and his first senior goal as the Black Cats came from behind to beat Wigan Athletic 2-1 at the Stadium of Light.
The 20-year-old joined Sunderland from Spurs in the summer of 2021 in a deal which reportedly contains a £6m buy-back clause, and there has been talk in recent weeks that Antonio Conte's side could be looking at trying to re-sign the England youth international. But now Brentford have emerged as possible rivals to Spurs for his signature, with The Sun claiming that the Bees view Cirkin as a potential long-term successor for Rico Henry.
Cirkin is under contract to Sunderland until 2024 and they would be reluctant to let him leave, but the prospect of a £6m bid from Spurs - or more, if Brentford get involved in an auction - would be hard to turn down. However, with the January transfer window two-and-a-half months away, there is still a long way to go before any decisions need to be made.

Cirkin joined Sunderland for an undisclosed fee in August 2021, and yestereday's game against Wigan was his 50th outing for the club.
