Sunderland have confirmed a huge up-turn in season ticket sales following the club's promotion back to the Championship. The Black Cats were 2-0 victors at Wembley last month and will once more play in England's second tier next season.
The sale of 28,000 season cards at the club comes as no surprise to many given Alex Neil's side have been backed tremendously all season. Some 46,000 made their way to the capital last month, a mammoth number for a team in the third tier.
Returning to the Championship after a four-year hiatus, Neil's side were also the second best supported away team for the 21/22 campaign, only behind Sheffield Wednesday in the standings. With an average of 2,343 away fans cheering the team on, support has once again been commended by on-watchers.

Following the victory at Wembley, former Sunderland player Micky Gray was quick to commend the club, hailing the tremendous support shown insisting the club should never have found themselves in the third tier in the first place.
"It is special, it really is special just to see this in front of us at Wembley," he told talkSPORT. "I didn't think it was ever going to happen. Every time you come here you have that expectation that things aren't going to go your way. What a group of players. Alex Neil coming in halfway through a season. What he has achieved at this football club, at my football club. They never deserved to be in League One in the first place."
