Sunderland will become the first football club to host its own branch of the Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club when it launches this week. The clubs offer veterans and serving members of the armed forces the chance to meet face-to-face in a social environment, for breakfast and banter on a regular basis.
There are more than 420 clubs across 14 countries worldwide, with more than 150,000 members. Sunderland will become the first club to amalgamate with a breakfast club, and will host its first AFVBC on Wednesday, November 9, in the Black Cats Bar, from 9am until 11am.
The club will then continue every second Wednesday of each month. Sunderland have strong links to the armed forces with 25 veterans making up part of the club's safety team, and the Black Cats held their Remembrance commemorations before kick-off in yesterday's home game against Cardiff City.

Dereck Hardman, founder of the AFVBC, was a guest of the board at the Cardiff game. Sign-up for the AFVBC is free, with only the breakfast itself chargeable.
