Sunderland Council local election results 2022: How every candidate scored

The Labour Party maintained control of Sunderland City Council as the Liberal Democrats celebrated the only gains of the night.

Labour reversed a recent trend of losing seats on Wearside, giving up only one seat, Doxford, to the Liberal Democrats

The Conservatives, who over two most recent elections have swept up a number of seats from Labour, also failed to gain any seats and lost one to the Liberal Democrats, handing over the Fulwell seat.

Labour now hold 41 of the authority's 75 seats. The Conservatives hold 18 wards, the Liberal Democrats 14, while there is one independent councillor and one ward, Copt Hill, remains vacant as this year's vote was paused due to the death of a councillor.
