Sunderland could capitalise on 'multi club model' with AS Monaco partnership

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire claims Sunderland could benefit from a partnership with Ligue 1 side AS Monaco. Reports in France last week claim Juan Sartori, co-owner and non-executive director at the Black Cats, is in line for a more senior role at The Monégasques.

Sartori has been a director at the French club since November last year and close friends with Black Cats co-owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus. The Uruguayan is understood to be keen on building a multi-club model.

With that in mind, Maguire believes Sunderland could benefit from a number of loan moves from the French side. “Sunderland could potentially be seen as a more desirable destination for loan players," Maguire told Football Insider.

"If you have a multi-club model where there is more of a centralisation training and technical knowledge, it makes sense to send players there. If there is a player who is too young or needs more game time than he’s getting at Monaco, they can get that at Sunderland. Not only that but they get it in a framework that is close to what he would be experiencing at the parent club. That can be huge for both parties. That means when he returns to the parent club, there will be less adjustment required. That’s the rationale behind such an approach.”
