Sunderland confirm plan for Manchester United loanee Amad

Manchester United loanee Amad scored his first Championship goal on loan at Sunderland this weekend. Amad gave his side the lead against Burnley at the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon and Sunderland's advantage was extended before half-time, but Burnley fought back in the second half to win 4-2 after completing an emphatic comeback.

Although Sunderland were defeated, it was a memorable afternoon for United loanee Amad, who scored his first goal since joining the club this summer. It was also just Amad's second start in the Championship following his debut in October.

Amad has mostly been used from off the bench during his time at the club and Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray was asked about his plan for the club's youngsters ahead of the Burnley match, as four young players recently joined the North East club.

Sunderland signed four young players including Amad, who is the only player among those arrivals to have started a game, at the end of the transfer window, and Mowbray was asked about the development of that quartet at his press conference on Friday.

"We've got some really talented footballers and I deal with them for four or five hours every day," Mowbray said. "Yet they are young boys, they are acclimatising to a new country, to a new football club, to a new dressing room.

"They don't know how to pay their bills, they're not sure how to get their phones sorted out, there's so much going on in their lives, and then you throw them on in a game where there are 40,000 people watching and expecting things from them.

"I think they just need a little bit of time. As the seasons unfolds, the 30 minutes you are getting towards the end of games will become 60 minutes from the start. I just have to try and manage them into the team.

"I like them, I like their qualities - I wouldn't be putting them on the pitch if I didn't think they were ready. But I don't think at this moment that they are ready to start football matches, to make the impact that the players they would replace would be bringing.

"I feel as though we have maybe 13 or 14 players with genuine trust that I could pick in whatever formation or whatever order, but then there's another six or seven that I genuinely think can make an impact in a football match."

Amad started and scored for Sunderland following those comments from Mowbray and that might influence his plan.

Sunderland have no option to make their loan for Amad permanent.
