Alex Neil says there is 'every chance' Sunderland could have another signing in place before Sunday's season-opener against Coventry City. The Black Cats are desperate to add more new recruits to strengthen their squad, with their lack of cover or competition for striker Ross Stewart a major concern.
Sunderland are understood to be keen to sign Everton striker Ellis Simms on loan, although the 21-year-old has also attracted interest from elsewhere. Neil would not comment on Simms, but when asked whether he expects Sunderland to add any new signings before the weekend, Neil said: "There's every chance."
And when asked if he would be prepared to put any new signing straight into his squad, Neil refused to rule that out. He said: "It depends how they look, doesn't it. It depends how many days they've got out on the grass.

"If we manage to get someone training a couple of days prior to [a game], then potentially. It depends what position as well in terms of how much cover we have in that area, and how we're going to go into the game.
"There's a whole host of things that go into it. I certainly wouldn't rule it out."
