Great Southern Nights - the state-backed initiative that stages thousands of musicians across the regions between March and April - arrives in Newcastle Sunday with four diverse songwriters staging a "once-in-a-lifetime lineup" at The Base in Newcastle West.
The show, titled 'Sunday Sauce' and produced by creative venture Rhino Milk Productions, will feature four unique musical acts, including the stylings of Newcastle-Muloobinba emerging artist Ena Malibu's vocals and electric guitar.
Malibu, who has been performing alongside Gambirra Mob and The ILLUME Girls for the past eight years, will take The Base stage at the weekend alongside Regikay, Meraki Mae and The Emerald Ruby.
Regikay is a six-piece neo soul-reggae band led by Regina Kamanda. The group's sound is inspired by Kamanda's West African heritage and incorporates Afro funk with modernised neo-soul, bringing to life a personal journey through her lyrics, melody and music.
Meraki Mae, a singer-songwriter and part-time comedian, promises a set that leaves audiences laughing and crying as they weave an activist sentiment through a love story between nature and spirit in an energetic performance.
Rounding out the quartet of diverse acts, the ethereal flute and ukulele stylings of The Emerald Ruby, combined with a background of classical training and a love of folk and jazz, promises a delicate musical tapestry.
Producers have touted a show packed with "a little of everything" from charismatic jazz, to afro funk and neo soul stylings, lilting folk and ethereal melodies.
Great Southern Nights, which auspices Sunday's performance, launched in November 2020 to boost tourism to regional areas of NSW, and foster both established and emerging artists and venues around the state.
The month-long festival of music is delivered annually by Destination NSW and features hundreds of COVID-safe performances at live music venues across Greater Sydney and regional NSW in March and April 2022.
'Sunday Sauce' will feature Regikay, Ena Malibu, Meraki Mae and The Emerald Ruby at The Base, 3 Tudor St Newcastle, on April 10. Tickets are available via TryBooking.
