Luxury car destroyed at posh Scots estate in latest mystery firebomb attack

Car on fire at Pailis Crescent, Bothwell (Daily Record)

Police are probing a late night arson attack which destroyed a luxury car in an posh housing development.

It is the latest series of mystery firebombings in the Lanarkshire town of Bothwell and nearby areas in the last three years.

The BMW convertible which was parked in a driveway was left engulfed in flames after it was set on fire shortly before Friday midnight.

Horrified residents in Pailis Crescent called the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service after the blaze broke out.

Emergency crews managed to put out the inferno before it could spread to the house and neighbouring properties.

Census chaos deepens as Scots pensioners face £1000 fines and criminal records

A sample Scotland's Census letter is held during the launch of Scotland's Census 2022 (PA)

Thousands of elderly people could end up with £1000 fines and a criminal record because of Scotland’s census chaos, according to a leading charity.

Latest figures show more than 12 per cent of households – about 350,000 people – have still to complete the forms.

Age Scotland says many are older citizens struggling to complete the census and desperately needing help.

Failure to return a census form is a criminal offence and carries a fine of £1000.

A new completion deadline of Sunday, June 12, was set last week. The original March 20 deadline was extended three times after poor uptake.

Flop ScotRail firm Abellio cashing in on secret contracts despite Scottish Government takeover

First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon after ScotRail transfered from Dutch firm Abellio into public ownership (PA)

The private operator of Scotland’s railway is continuing to cash in on secret contracts to run the crippled rail network – despite the service being nationalised.

Abellio was stripped of its £6billion ScotRail franchise in April amid mounting criticism about its poor performance.

Yet the Dutch state-owned company is still making millions from taxpayers behind the scenes thanks to a series of deals for undisclosed amounts that will run for up to three years.

The details were revealed in a Sunday Mail investigation into ScotRail, which is already in meltdown weeks after being taken into
public ownership as a driver pay dispute resulted in hundreds of services being pulled from timetables.

New York vice queen Anna Gristina makes emotional bid to return home to Scotland to see her dying mum

A Scots vice queen jailed in New York for running an elite prostitution network has launched an emotional bid to return home to see her dying mother.

Anna Gristina, from West Lothian, was convicted in 2012 but has since been fighting to get a passport so she can visit Scotland.

In an exclusive interview with the Sunday Mail from her American home, she told how it would allow her to see her elderly mum, who is terminally ill.

She accused the FBI of reneging on a deal that would allow her a passport in return for information on men who were forcing underage girls into prostitution.

She said: “I’m living my life in limbo – I can never leave the country to go and see my family because I’ll never get back in.

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has revealed he can't go shopping with his family in Glasgow because he gets mobbed by fans.

Postecoglou said he and his wife Georgia and their two boys Max and Alexi had gone on a few trips to shopping centres together.

However, he stopped going on the family outings when he realised he was attracting too much attention.

The Greek-born Australian was appointed the new Celtic manager a year ago and has set up home in Glasgow with his family.
