'Sums it up' - Harvey Elliott makes Liverpool dressing room claim as Manchester United response targeted

Harvey Elliott has admitted Liverpool were outdone by Crystal Palace's effective game plan on Monday evening but has vowed the team will bounce back against Manchester United.

Jurgen Klopp's side fell behind in the first half after Wilfried Zaha's well-taken effort found the bottom right corner of the goal, though restored parity after the break through Luis Diaz. It proved to be a frustrating evening at Anfield for the Reds, who grew more and more frustrated by the Eagles' gamesmanship throughout the contest.

Happy to run the clock down at every opportunity, Palace sat deep in their own half to soak up the pressure and successfully slowed the game down by going to ground under minimal contact.

Speaking after the match, Elliott conceded Patrick Vieira's men saw the benefits of their approach to the match and could not hide his disappointment at the full-time result.

"I think the mood in the changing room sums it up really," the teenager told Liverpoolfc.com.

“We came here to win, unfortunately we couldn’t do that today but it’s a point. We haven’t been beaten, which is the main thing, and we’re just going to take it into the next game. Hopefully we can put it right. Palace came here with a game plan and it worked for them

“There were a lot of positives from tonight – a lot more than the Fulham game, so it’s a stepping stone for us. We just need to make sure we get the three points now."

Attention now turns to next Monday's meeting with Manchester United, a dare not lose fixture for both clubs given the context of the campaign. The Reds secured a resounding 5-0 victory on their previous trip to Old Trafford and Elliott is hopeful this can be the game to get Liverpool's season back on track.

“Man United is always going to be a tough game away at their place. We’re just going to be fully focused and with full fight and hopefully we can go in and put it right this time," added the Fulham Academy graduate.
