Sumo wrestling giants land at Parc Paragon

Sumo wrestling from Japan will take centre stage during "Siam Paragon The Wonderous Heritage Of Japan", which will take place at the Parc Paragon of Siam Paragon, daily from 10.30am to 8.30pm, from Thursday to Sunday.

Held to commemorate the 136 years of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Japan, this is the first time Thais can witness the ancient martial art of Japan in Bangkok.

Leading the captivating spectacle will be Jokoryu, a former professional sumo wrestler who achieved the prestigious Komusubi level which is an impressive fourth out of 10 in the top professional sumo ranking called Makuuchi. Joining him will be wrestlers ranking in Makushita -- Bungo Nishiki, Kumako and Kotootori.

The celebration will continue with Japanese cultural shows performed in the enchanting atmosphere of the summer festival, including a taiko drum performance, Japanese fan dance and Yosakoi dance by the Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology.

The 90-minute performance of sumo, taiko drum and Japanese traditional dances will run twice daily at 2pm and 5pm, with no admission fee but limited seats. Reservations can be made via Onesiam SuperApp by tomorrow. Walk-in visitors are also welcome.

The festival will also feature delectable arrays of Japanese snacks and sweets, exquisite souvenirs from Japan, cultural-themed trips from Japan Airlines, as well as exclusive collections of handcrafted gashapon art toys in sumo and shonen (boy's comics) themes by a group of Thai artists called SalaArte.

Every 500 baht spent at the festival will entitle you to join an origami paper folding workshop at 1pm or a Daruma doll-making workshop at 4pm, free of charge.
