The summer showers are likely to gain momentum over southern and central parts of the State by the middle of next week triggered by the cyclonic circulations over the Bay of Bengal.
After a short break of two days, thunderstorms with moderate intensity will be witnessed in the southern parts of the State from Wednesday.
According to a weather bulletin issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a trough runs from west Vidarbha to south interior Karnataka at 0.9 km above mean sea level. The cyclonic circulation now lies over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of North Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu.
Under the influence of the weather system, scattered and fairly widespread rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning are very likely over Kerala and Lakshadweep during the next five days. Further, isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Kerala on April 13 and April 14, the bulletin said.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has issued a yellow alert in Pathanamthitta and Idukki on Wednesday and yellow alert in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathnamthitta districts on Thursday warning of isolated heavy rainfall.
