Summer Newcastle United target Benjamin Sesko scores a wondergoal for Slovenia

Summer Newcastle United target Benjamin Sesko scored a sensational volley in Slovenia's 1-1 draw against Sweden in the UEFA Nations League on Tuesday.

Petar Stojanovic floated an inviting diagonal ball into the box for Sesko to unleash an audacious first time volley into the top corner from an acute angle.

Emil Forsberg equalised on the cusp of half-time to end a run of three straight defeats for a Sweden side, who were without Newcastle duo Emile Krafth and Alexander Isak.

Sesko's name found itself plastered on every major sports website when his agent Elvis Basanovic posted an Instagram story of him posing for a picture on the banks of the Tyne.

Newcastle had held an interest in the Slovenian forward but soon found themselves pitted against the likes of Manchester United and Red Bull Salzburg's affiliate club RB Leipzig.

The Bundesliga outfit quickly bulldozed their way to the front of the queue and announced that the 19-year-old would join them ahead of the 2023-24 season for a reported fee in the region of €24 million.

Sesko announced himself at academy level with 59 goals in 23 matches for the U15 side of Slovenian outfit Krsko. He then spent a solitary season at Domzale before leaving his homeland for Red Bull Salzburg at the age of 16.

He was loaned to FC Liefering, who act as Red Bulls' feeder team/reserve team, in the Austrian second-tier. He scored 21 goals and 29 games during the 2020-21 campaign and returned to play a starring role following Patson Daka's departure to Leicester City.

The youngster posted 11 goals and six assists across all competitions in his first full season at Red Bull Salzburg, which alerted a number of clubs across the continent. Since signing on the dotted line for RB Leipzig, Sesko has scored five goals in 13 appearances during his final season in Salzburg.
