Summer Game Fest 2023 has come and gone, or at least the main event has. The days following will see plenty of additional showcases, including the Xbox Games Showcase, but the initial presentation hosted by Geoff Keighley was bursting with announcements and reveals. Square Enix showed off Final Fantasy 7 Part 2 properly, Insomniac announced Spider-Man 2’s release date, there’s a new 2D Sonic in the works, and RGG Studio’s Yakuza series is coming back again in fall 2023.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 trailer
The show closed with a significant reveal: a story trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2. The trailer raises more questions than it answers, and you can check it out in our FF7 Remake Part 2 recap.
Honkai Star Rail PS5 update
HoYoverse is still hard at work on Honkai Star Rail‘s PS5 version, though the release date is still looking a little vague.
Mortal Kombat 1 gameplay
Following a bloody reveal a few weeks previously, NetherRealm showcased a first-look at Mortal Kombat 1‘s even bloodier gameplay. Heads roll, fly, and get pulled off, and it’s all very squelchy. Maybe don’t have a snack while you watch.
Capcom announces new Street Fighter 6 crossover
Street Fighter 6‘s first crossover is with another Capcom game: Exoprimal. Ryu’s going toe to talon with some dinos starting July 14, 2023.
Fortnite Chapter 4, Season 3 first look
Following Epic’s recent tease about a new Fortnite map, the free-to-play game maker showed off a whole lot more. The new season goes live on June 9, 2023.
Yes Your Grace expansion announcement
The hit indie game Yes, Your Grace is getting an expansion in early 2024. There’s snow, peasants, rulers, potatoes, and plenty of the game’s signature quirky strategy to look forward to.
Like A Dragon Gaiden release date trailer
Like A Dragon Gaiden, a spinoff following Kiryu’s exploits in a post-Song of Life world, finally has a release date and a fantastic new trailer.
Nicholas Cage in Dead by Daylight
We knew Nicholas Cage was coming to Dead by Daylight and now we know when: July 25, 2023. We also got to hear Cage himself discussing why he was so interested in taking on this new challenge.
Ubisoft announces new 2D Prince of Persia game
A new Prince of Persia is in the works, and the Rayman Legends team is the one making it. There’s more Metroidvania than limbless hero in this action game, though. Check out the trailer in our Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown recap.
The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria trailer
Return to Moria, the Lord of the Rings game that seems so much like Tolkien meets Valheim, popped up again, this time with a gameplay trailer narrated by John Rhys-Davies himself (voice of Gimli in Peter Jackson’s LotR films). You play as a dwarf seeking to return Moria to its former glory in Middle Earth’s Fourth Age, a time after Sauron falls – and sans the giant demon inside the mines.
Path of Exile 2 trailer
We finally got a good look at Path of Exile 2, and if dark fantasy and deep RPGs are your thing, this is definitely one to keep an eye on.
Palworld release date trailer
It’s Pokemon with guns, except it’s not really Pokemon or The Pokemon Company’s lawyers would be cracking their knuckles in anticipation. Palworld enters early access in January 2024, and it looks… well, like you’re shooting cute little critters and watching them slave away in factories.
New Immortals of Aveum trailer
EA showed off another look at Immortals of Aveum. There’s a lot of magic, bullets, and magical bullets, and it looks like quite the action-packed adventure.
