Sugarhill Steward reveals factor which will decide Tyson Fury knockout vs Dillian Whyte

The heavyweight world championship fight between Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte takes place in just under three weeks' time and Fury's trainer Sugarhill Steward has taken time away from camp to reveal how he thinks his fighter can win. Whyte is the mandatory challenger for Fury's WBC crown but faces an uphill struggle against the unbeaten world champion.

Steward has trained the Morecambe based fighter since 2020 and has overseen Fury's successive wins over Deontay Wilder in the USA. However, this is the first time that the pair will work together in the UK, with up to 100,000 people expected at Wembley for the long awaited return of the 'Gypsy King' to these shores.

The pair will do battle on April 23 and both are deep into training camps, with Fury on a social media blackout training in the UK while Whyte has been in Portugal for the build-up to the fight. The latter refused to make the trip over to the UK for last month's press conference, prompting ridicule from the Fury camp.

American trainer Steward has placed on the record the fact that he would like his man to knock out his opponent and in an interview with Talksport last week, he emphasised the importance of that game plan. He explained: “In this fight I’m looking for one thing mainly from Tyson Fury and that’s punch placement,”

“It’s the ability to set up the correct punch at the right time and we’re looking for a big, exciting bang after that - I don’t know anything else [but to go for a knockout]." He added, "It’s difficult for me to train anyone to go for a decision, I just don’t really believe in that myself.

“If you have the opportunity to train for a knockout, why would I sell myself short? I feel like if I train a fighter to go for the knockout, if he doesn’t get the knockout, then if they come up short with the knockout at least they put in enough effort to win that fight.”
