The Sugar Bowl has made the decision to move forward the start time for the previously postponed bowl game to Thursday at 4 p.m. ET in response to the tragic attack that occurred in New Orleans on Wednesday. The College Football Playoff quarterfinal game between the University of Georgia and the University of Notre Dame, scheduled to take place in New Orleans, will now kick off at 4 p.m. ET on Thursday at Caesars Superdome, as announced by the Sugar Bowl.

In a statement released by the Sugar Bowl, it was explained that the adjustment in the game schedule was deemed necessary due to the current engagement of law enforcement assets in active investigations related to the recent incident. By postponing the game to Thursday afternoon, additional security resources can be allocated to ensure the safety and security standards expected for a major event at the Caesars Superdome are met.

Earlier in the day on Wednesday, Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley had indicated that the game would be played on Thursday night. However, the decision was later made to reschedule the game to an earlier time slot to accommodate the need for heightened security measures in light of the circumstances.

With the safety and well-being of all involved being of paramount importance, the Sugar Bowl organizers are taking proactive steps to ensure a secure environment for players, staff, and spectators attending the highly anticipated matchup between the University of Georgia and the University of Notre Dame. By moving the game start time to 4 p.m. ET on Thursday, the Sugar Bowl aims to uphold the integrity of the event while prioritizing the security measures necessary in the aftermath of the tragic events in New Orleans.
