BTS rapper Suga is ready to strike a chord with a solo tour.
The South Korean superstar announced a series of concerts beginning in April, making him the first member of his Korean-pop group to tour solo.
He’ll kick off the global concert run with back-to-back shows at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, on April 26-27, followed by an April 29 gig at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, according to Tuesday’s announcement.
The tour also includes three concerts in Los Angeles, three in suburban Chicago and two in Oakland, California, all of which will take place in May.
He’ll perform as well in Jakarta, Indonesia; Bangkok; Kallang, Singapore; and Seoul, South Korea, where BTS originated in 2013. Japan dates are forthcoming, organizers said.
Suga, whose real name is Min Yoon-gi, rose to fame as one of seven members in BTS, the Grammy-nominated group behind hits such as “Dynamite” and “Butter.”
Last year, BTS announced a hiatus until 2025 as its members fulfill their country’s mandatory military service and pursue solo projects.
“We support and encourage our artists and are beyond proud that they will each now have time to explore their unique interests and do their duty by being of service to the country they call home,” the Big Hit music label said in October.
In December, the group’s eldest member, 30-year-old Jin, became the first to begin the 18-month military requirement.
Suga’s solo hits include “Agust D” and “Give It To Me.”
BTS boasts a massive following in the U.S., where it has six No. 1 songs. The group held concerts at the Prudential Center during world tours in 2017 and 2018. Suga’s performance at the arena will come six months after another major K-pop act, Blackpink, had two concerts there in November.
