Sue Cleaver's ITV Corrie co-star admits 'unsettling' part about her being on I'm A Celebrity

She's currently settling into life as a celeb campmate on I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here! in Australia. But Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver's fellow soap actor has shared an 'unsettling' aspect of being on our TV each night on the popular ITV reality show.

In last night's episode (Friday) Sue, who plays Eileen Grimshaw in Corrie, left viewers and her I'm a Celebrity campmates and viewers shocked as she revealed how a chance encounter at a theatre led her to meet her birth mother. Sue, who has played Eileen in the ITV soap since 2000, opened up to her fellow reality show contestants about being adopted and how acting “saved” her.

She explained that when she was in her early twenties she was at drama school. The Royal Exchange in Manchester were looking for “tiny parts” for the theatre production of Oedipus.

She recalled that after walking in on the first day, an actor said: “Oh my god, she’s the absolute double of my wife when I met her,” before asking her for her date of birth. Sue said he then asked where she was born: “And I went, ‘Barnet.’ He rung his wife and he said, ‘I’ve found her’.”

TV presenter Scarlette Douglas gasped “what!” and former England footballer Jill Scott said “nah, that has just given me goosebumps. That is the most incredible story I think I’ve ever heard.”

Watching his friend adjust to the jungle, co-star Tony Maudsley, who plays Eileen's partner George Shuttleworth, took to Twitter to say how he's been left confused by hearing her call out to campmate Boy George. He wrote: "Every time I hear @Sue_Cleaver say 'George' my instinct is to reach for my script like I've missed a line!"

He added: "It's most unsettling! Can't she just call him 'Boy' instead?" @Jenny95802100 replied: "When I heard her say George I thought she was talking about you then I remembered that Boy George was there."

@bjpapworth suggested: "Imagine if you were both there in @imacelebrity together." And Tony said: "I wouldn't DARE touch her towel." Meanwhile their co-star Sally Ann Matthews, who plays Jenny Connor, said about Sue sharing her heart-warming story: "Oh it’s like she’s back in the green room x"

As the show kicked off last Sunday Tony previously joked as he spotted Sue getting to know 80s pop icon Boy George. "Oh Eyelash! You’ve swapped me for a pop star?" he asked. And Sue's Twitter replied to him with crying-laughing emojis: "Never!!!"
