Sudan's military reported that General Abdel-Fattah Burhan, the top commander, narrowly escaped a drone attack during a military graduation ceremony in the eastern town of Gebeit. The attack, carried out by two drones, resulted in the tragic loss of five lives. Fortunately, General Burhan, who was present at the ceremony, emerged unharmed.

The ongoing conflict in Sudan has pitted the military against the Rapid Support Forces, a formidable paramilitary group. The military's operational base has shifted to eastern Sudan near the Red Sea Coast due to the intense fighting in the capital, Khartoum.

This assassination attempt follows closely on the heels of an announcement by Gen. Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, the leader of the Rapid Support Forces, regarding his participation in upcoming cease-fire talks in Switzerland. These talks, facilitated by the United States and Saudi Arabia, are seen as a crucial step towards achieving peace and stability in Sudan.

Gen. Dagalo emphasized the significance of the talks in paving the way for a new Sudan characterized by principles of justice, equality, and federal governance. The international community is closely monitoring these developments, hopeful for a positive outcome that could bring an end to the protracted conflict in Sudan.
