Subway staff stunned when dad demands 27 rashers on 'biggest bacon sub ever'

A dad claims Subway staff told him he'd ordered the 'biggest bacon sub' they had ever served - as he demanded a whopping 27 rashers on his foot-long sandwich. Food blogger Craig Harker was looking to sink his teeth into a meaty breakfast so popped into the Hardwick branch of Subway in County Durham and ordered the 1,600-calorie snack.

The 35-year-old asked the bemused member of staff to pile on hash browns and cheese on top of the back bacon before adding an additional six portions of streaky bacon. After rejecting the offer of any salad items on his Hearty Italian sarnie, Craig asked for some crispy onions and ketchup to top it off and a cherry Pepsi Max to wash it down.

Footage shared on Facebook shows Craig ordering and forking out £12.19 on the gut-busting butty, before wolfing it down in 'less than five minutes'. The dad-of-three praised the sarnie as being a 'breakfast of the gods' and said he'd definitely be back to sample one again.

Craig, from Hardwick, County Durham, said: "Their usual bacon sandwich has three slices [of bacon] I ended up getting 27 slices. The first three are the back bacon and then 24 streaky bacon after that, so six extra portions.

"The lass in the shop said it was the biggest bacon bun she's ever served. She was laughing her head off. I've never had a Subway bacon sandwich before and it was nice mixing the bacon together, it was really tasty. I'll definitely be back, 100%. The price was reasonable, I don't think that's bad for a top breakfast like that - that's like breakfast of the gods."

Food-loving Craig, who runs food blog Dad Loves Food alongside owning The George Pub and Grill, popped into the branch at 10.45am after seeing an advert for their breakfast range in the window. Craig said: "I didn't think of Subway as a breakfast place. I normally get the meatball subs from there but I was just going past and I saw it in the window.

"Instead of going to where I'd usually go I just thought 'I'll get a bacon bun here'. As soon as she asked if I wanted a foot-long I thought 'we can make this interesting now we've got a big bun'.

"Usually that's one of the struggles when you're creating a big sandwich - finding a bun or enough slices of bread. You can absolutely go wild with a foot-long. I asked [the server] 'how much bacon can I add?' She was laughing, at first she thought I was joking asking for so many slices.

"It was big but it was manageable, I ate that in under five minutes. If you were on a budget when they cut it you could ask them to cut that into three and there's your breakfast, dinner and tea in one go."

Subway has been contacted for comment.
