Subway launches Easter Cadbury’s Creme Egg sandwich

Sandwich chain Subway is preparing a chocolate sandwich to be sold in time for Easter weekend.

The bizarre concoction — a Cadbury’s Creme Egg SubMelt — will be available free of charge at four of Subway’s nationwide restaurants.

One of these will be based in London, with 500 limited-edition sarnies up for grabs on April 7 to celebrate the Easter bank holiday weekend.

The melted chocolate mix will be available at Subway branches in Tottenham Court Road, central London and Central Shopping Centre, Liverpool.

Llansamlet Service Station, Swansea, and Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, are the other participating Subway branches.

Each restaurant will have a limited number of six-inch chocolate Creme Egg sandwiches. These will be served melted and on Subway’s signature Italian white bread.

Rusty Warren, senior new product development and product innovation manager at Subway, said: “We’re delighted to have collaborated with Cadbury this Easter.

“Our Italian white bread and Cadbury Creme Eggs make the most flavoursome combination, a perfect seasonal treat.

“All the team at Subway are especially excited to see how those Subway fans with a sweet tooth respond to this delicious SubMelt.”

Subway chiefs came up with the idea and said they had to approach the chocolate company Cadbury to make the dream a reality.

Teams, including chocolate taste testers from Cadbury, then launched a super team to make the sandwich.

Charlotte Docker, brand executive for Cadbury Creme Egg, said: “When Subway approached us to create this eggs-traordinary Submelt, we simply couldn’t resist.

“The highly anticipated Creme Egg season is in full swing and we’re so excited to launch this innovative product with Subway as a final hoorah of the Easter season.

“We can’t wait for the response of those lucky enough to try this surprisingly delicious merging of sweet and savoury.”
