Gardai in Dublin seized a suspected firearm along with a silencer, loaded magazine and ammunition following a search in the Finglas area on Friday, November 25.
The investigation was carried out based on information received by An Garda Siochana.
Following a search of an apartment’s maintenance area in Finglas, Gardai seized a suspected sub-machine gun.
The suspected firearm had been wrapped in white plastic wrapping and bin bags when it was found by Gardai at approximately 1:10pm last Friday.
A silencer, loaded magazine and a small white bag with bullets were also seized.
Investigations are ongoing into the find, with the items being sent to the Garda Ballistics Unit for analysis.
A spokesperson from An Garda Siochana said: “Gardaí seized a suspected firearm along with a silencer, loaded magazine and ammunition during the course of a search in the Dublin 11 area on Friday, 25th November, 2022.
"As a result of information received, Gardaí from Finglas conducted a search of a maintenance area at an apartment complex in Finglas at approximately 1:10pm.
"During the course of this search, a suspected sub-machine gun which had been wrapped in white plastic wrapping and then double bagged in black bin bags, was located and seized.
"Beside the suspected firearm was a silencer, loaded magazine and a small white bag containing ten 9mm bullets, all of which were seized.
"All of the items seized will be sent to the Garda Ballistics Unit for analysis.
"Investigations are ongoing."
