Stylish new Mexican restaurant Big Lola's opening on Smithdown Road

Much loved Duke Street Market venue Big Lola's is opening its first standalone taco shop and takeaway on Smithdown Road this week.

Smithdown Road is a popular and bustling part of the city with an impressive mix of eclectic restaurants, takeaways, bars, shops and more. The historic street is known and loved for its diversity, where a range of cultures and cuisines converge.

Tomorrow (August 17), Big Lola's will join the ranks and open its doors to the public. Big Lola's Taqueria specialises in Mexican dishes, inspired by the Mission District of San Francisco.

Its beloved menu offers slow cooked beef brisket burritos, grilled chicken tacos, confit mushroom rice bowls, chocolate caramel churros and more. Big Lola's has experienced great success at city centre food haunt Duke Street Market, where its permanent menu is accompanied by trials of special dishes.

The Mexican venue's Smithdown Road site is its first standalone taco shop and takeaway. It's been painted in an on-trend bottle green, with vibrant signage created by local business, Harry Mytton Signs.

Inside, there's stylish white subway tiles with splashes of bottle green, tying the interior in with the exterior. There's also a tiled bar counter, where customers can pull up a modern black and wood stool, and tuck into a tasty dish while watching the world go by through the expansive window.

Big Lola's will offer its signature Duke Street dishes alongside a selection of Mexican sweet treats. It will open tomorrow, August 17, and customers will be able to order two ways - in store, or via its website where click and collect will be available.

Joe Earnshaw, co-founder of Big Lola's Taqueria, told the Echo : "We can't wait to throw open the doors on Wednesday. The whole team has worked very hard to get our Smithdown taco shop and takeaway open, and so it will be great to welcome our first customers. Whether you're looking to pull up a stool and eat at our counter with a nice cold beer, or grab a big takeaway to eat at home, we've got you covered."
