Stunner: Ravens reach agreement with Marcus Williams on five-year contract

Wow: the Baltimore Ravens flew in from out of nowhere to reach an agreement with New Orleans Saints free safety Marcus Williams on a five-year contract valued at $70 million, meaning a per-season average of $14 million annually. It’s a big haul but maybe beneath the expectations Williams had going into free agency in light of Jamal Adams’ $17.25 million per-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler first reported news of Williams’ departure.

New Orleans needs a new safety to run with Malcolm Jenkins and C.J. Gardner-Johnson. And Williams gets an opportunity to inherit Ed Reed’s iconic legacy in Baltimore while rebuilding a secondary that fell far short of expectations in 2021. Good luck to him.
