Stunned Chris Sutton reacts to Celtic star Cameron Carter Vickers player of the year omission

Chris Sutton reckons Cameron Carter-Vickers is Scottish football's player of the year – insisting he deserves it over his Celtic teammates.

The American defender has proved to be an inspired piece of business by Ange Postecoglou, starring since joining on loan from Tottenham.

He's been a virtual ever-present in the Celtic backline, marshalling Postecoglou's troops to the Premiership's best defensive record.

However he was overlooked when the four-man shortlist for the PFA Scotland Player of the Year was named.

The award goes to the best player in the country and is voted for by teammates and opposition players.

Celtic duo Callum McGregor and Tom Rogic made the cut as did Hearts' Craig Gordon and Ross County's Regan Charles-Cook.

But it was the absence of Carter-Vickers that riled Record Sport columnist Sutton as he took to Twitter to vent his frustrations.

He said: "The best player in Scotland this season has been Cameron Carter-Vickers by a stretch… how is he not on the list??"

Despite not joining until the end of August, Carter-Vickers has racked up 42 appearances for Celtic this season – behind only captain McGregor, keeper Joe Hart and his central defensive partner Carl Starfelt.
