A platform for fandoms and online communities has revealed that ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ is the world’s most popular video game with the highest ‘Curse Count’. Conducting a study into IMDB’s most popular 18+ video games, FandomSpot.com, has revealed a list of the world’s favourite games with the most profanity.
The research found that the action role-playing game ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ is top of the ‘Curse Count’ list, with more than 700 incidences of offensive swear words in its script.
The top 10 most popular video games with the highest ‘Curse Count’ are:
Cyberpunk 2077 - 722
Grand Theft Auto IV - 691
Grand Theft Auto V - 669
The Last of Us: Part II - 523
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - 501
Until Dawn - 393
Red Dead Redemption II - 347
Detroit: Become Human - 331
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - 277
The Last of Us - 84
Although it doesn’t make the shortlist of IMDB’s most popular 18+ video games, ‘Scarface: The World is Yours’ holds a Guinness World Record for the most swearing in a video game containing 5,688 instances of one offensive word in 31,000 lines of dialogue.
Alyssa Celatti of FandomSpot.com, said: “Swearing has become a very normal thing you see in video games nowadays with most game scripts using profanity, especially in the 18+ genre. Despite the age restrictions we all know it doesn’t limit players below that age playing these games, therefore there can still be controversy around games using bad language as a result.
“Conducting this study to find the ‘Curse Count’ of our most popular games has been really interesting and we hope the findings prove interesting to gamers whether they dislike the use of profanity in games or not. We also hope the findings can be helpful to any parents who may be worried about the use of bad language in the games their children play, and hopefully it can highlight to them which games may be ‘better’ or ‘worse’ for this.”
