Study finds watching England more stressful than having a baby ahead of France World Cup clash

England are back in the knockout stages of the World Cup, and as a result, the possibility of penalty shootouts looms and some consider having a baby less stressful than watching spot-kicks.

The Three Lions suffered semi-final heartache four years ago but their efforts in Russia were fondly remembered after they shook off their penalties hoodoo to beat Colombia thanks to the heroics of Jordan Pickford and Eric Dier.

Unfortunately last year, Italy were crowned European champions as England were left to rue their luck during the penalty shootout in the final at Wembley.

In a study conducted by Betfair, 14 per cent of individuals revealed that they found having a baby less stressful than sitting through the lottery of spot-kicks. Gareth Southgate's side lock horns with the reigning world champions, France, on Sunday knowing a win would see them move into a third semi-final in as many major tournaments.

Didier Deschamps' squad are widely considered as one of the tournament favourites with the likes of Kylian Mbappe in their arsenal. The PSG forward stretched his lead at the top of the golden boot race thanks to his brace in their 3-1 win over Poland in the Round of 16.

However, it has been revealed that 36 per cent of people find parking their car less stressful and 19 per cent find arguing with their other halves less taxing than watching the Three Lions try their luck from 12 yards.

Pickford never got the chance to try his luck against Gianluigi Donnarumma last year, similarly against David Ospina. But during England's venture in the UEFA Nations League where they secured bronze, Pickford rifled his spot-kick past Yan Sommer.

And former international manager, Betfair ambassador Glenn Hoddle fancies the Everton number one's quality from the spot. He said: "I’d back Jordan Pickford to take a penalty over some of England’s outfield players."
