The Denver Broncos came into their Week 9 matchup against their toughest opponent to date — the Baltimore Ravens — and they got pummeled 41-10 on Sunday.
We take a look at the studs and duds from the game that dropped the Broncos to 5-4.
Stud: Broncos trick plays
Wide receiver Courtland Sutton’s touchdown pass to quarterback Bo Nix was a well-designed play, and an even better catch for Nix. Head coach Sean Payton was seen talking and smiling with Nix and Sutton on the sideline after the play. You can’t say this team isn’t having fun.
Dud: Offensive line
Unfortunately, that seemed about where the fun ended for the Broncos. Nix was under duress most of the game, and had to make plays with his legs. The Denver offensive line looked flummoxed against the Raven’s defensive front.
Dud: Tackling
The defense had a difficult time getting players to the ground, which was no more evident than on the Ravens’ touchdown right before halftime. Broncos safety Devon Key almost had Zay Flowers tackled before Flowers accelerated for a score to make it a 14-point disadvantage at halftime. Tackling continued to be an issue throughout.
Dud: Garett Bolles
Bolles had a rough day on his own, as he had several Ravens go by him on their way to Nix. Bolles also committed yet another holding penalty on a potential scramble touchdown by Nix. Not a great day for a player who is set to become a free agent after the season.
Stud: WR Courtland Sutton
Sutton had himself another great game, catching seven passes for 122 yards. He also was on the passing end of the Broncos’ version of the “Philly Special,” keeping his perfect passer rating and 100 percent completion percentage intact.
Dud: Red zone offense
The Broncos made four trips inside the Raven’s 20, and came away with only 10 points. This is going to be a heavy point of emphasis going into an AFC West matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 10. Denver’s offense will have to finish drives with points in order to upset the Chiefs.
