The Eagles made things difficult for themselves down the stretch but still made enough plays to secure a 28-23 win over the Cowboys on Sunday.
All-Pro quarterback Jalen Hurts shook off a hit to his injured left knee, throwing for 207 yards and two touchdowns and running for another score, as Philadelphia became the only 8-1 team in the NFL.
With the Birds now on a bye week and awaiting word on Dallas Goedert’s injury, we’re looking at the studs and duds from Sunday’s win.
Studs-A.J. Brown/DeVonta Smith
When you log 125+ receiving yards in six straight games like A.J. Brown did, seven catches for 66 yards and a score can seem like an off night. DeVonta Smith tacked on three receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown, as both players were efficient and tough when it was needed.
Stud--Brandon Graham
His snaps have been down, but Graham made plays during the biggest moments of the game, rekindling memories of the Super Bowl strip sack.
DUring the final moments of Sunday’s win, Graham recorded solo sack and a split sack of Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott on the final series of the game, putting Dallas in third-and-21 along with some pre-snap penalties.
Stud-- Jalen Hurts
He didn’t throw for 374 yards, but Hurts was efficient, going 17-23 passing, for 207 yards (9.0 YPA) and 2 touchdowns.
Stud--Zach Cunningham
A late summer signing, Cunningham led the Eagles with 12 tackles, 1 TFL and 1 pass defended.
Stud--P Braden Mann
Mann had 5 punts for 259 yards (51.8 AVG) and a long of 57 yards, while pinning Dallas deep twice throughout the night.
Stud--Josh Sweat
Sweat logged 4 tackles, 1 sack, 1 TFL, and 1 QB hit, along with another six pressures.
According to PFF, Sweat now has 50 pressures on the season, tying him with Micah Parsons for the most in the NFL.
Dud--Eagles pass defense
Sean Desai went againt a mostly zone coverage, putting trust in a young group of defenders that included Eli Ricks, Sydney Brown and Reed Blankenship.
It was a learning experience, and a lesson in pass coverage.
#Eagles defense struggled to cover Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb in the slot with a variety of players. Overall, allowed a combined 13 of 15 passing for 206 yards, 1 TD.
Here’s the breakdown, per PFF:
Eli Ricks: 32 snaps, allowed 4 of 4 passes for 72 yards
Kevin Byard: 15, 3 of 3 for…
