Students have rallied around a Hunter Valley teacher, accused of assaulting a school boy in an alleged classroom brawl.
Michael Kable walked into Maitland Local Court alone today, but a group of students were close by to show their support for a teacher who they said is loved by many.
"We came out, we left school, came to show support to sir," 18-year-old student Michael Tansi said.
"When he taught us, we had a laugh, he joked around.
"This is honestly sad for all of us, even the students back at school, everyone sends their support."
The 62-year-old teacher from Windale was arrested on March 21, after an alleged brawl at Maitland Grossmann High School earlier that day.
'Shocked' students show support
Mr Kable was charged with common assault and issued an apprehended violence order (AVO).
In court today, Magistrate Ron Maiden asked if Mr Kable was seeking an adjournment of his case to get legal advice.
Mr Kable replied, "I am."
Magistrate Maiden ensured Mr Kable understood the conditions of his bail, which was continued.
He also went over the AVO, which prevents Mr Kable from contacting the alleged victim.
Magistrate Maiden then adjourned the case for three weeks.
Outside the court, Mr Tansi, who is a year 12 student at the school, said he missed his teacher and wished him all the best.
"I feel sorry for him," he said.
"We all love you, we miss you.
"I hope you're doing good and I hope your family is alright too."
