Student woman, 19, shot dead by man after she rejected his marriage proposal

Another young Egyptian woman has been killed in a spate of femicide acts in the country.

Amani Abdul-Karim al-Gazzar, 19, was shot and killed in Tukh Tanbisha village in the Menofia Governorate on Saturday, September 3.

A 29-year-old man named as Ahmad Fathi Ameirah shot her after she turned down his marriage proposal, before turning the gun on himself.

In a sick video on social media, Ameirah appeared to be waiting in the bushes to strike his victim.

He is heard saying: "I am Ahmad Ameirah, you are all searching for me. I am the criminal. I used to [breathe] her, and I was living for her… I will take your [al-Gazzar’s] revenge."

His body was found on a country road.

The Egyptian interior ministry said Ameirah "committed suicide using the same weapon that he used to kill [al-Gazzar]."

Attempts to resuscitate the victim at the nearby hospital ultimately proved unsuccessful and al-Gazzar sadly died.

Videos from the scene reportedly showed residents gathering around in panic, all while police were dispatched to try and locate the shooter.

Reports claimed al-Gazzar rejected Ameirah's marriage proposal for 'bad behaviour'.

The killing is the latest in a number of femicides to have rocked Egypt. Most infamous was the killing of Naira Ashraf, a student murdered by her jealous classmate Mohamed Adel on June 20.

Adel was reportedly furious at Ashraf's rejection of him.

The killing gained more notoriety as the court that sentenced him - Adel pleaded guilty - appealed to the Egyptian Parliament to have him executed on live TV.

Despite pleading guilty, he was still sentenced to death in a decision that had to go to Egypt’s 'Grand Mufti' Dr Shawki Allam for approval.

Adel's team have appealed against his death sentence, while two female nurses and one man were briefly jailed and fined for releasing footage of Ashraf's body that included details of her stab wounds.

They were ordered to pay the equivalent of over £2,100 in fines and £820 in bail money.

In August, an Egyptian man stabbed victim Salma Nahjat 17 times, killing her.

The alleged killer was identified as Islam Mohammed, accused of killing her after she reportedly ended their relationship.

They were both students at the Faculty of Mass Communications at al-Shorouk University in Cairo, Egypt.
