Student drops 10st after ditching £700-a-month takeaways that saw him 'drowning in food'

A medical student has dropped more than 10 stone after ditching his £700 per month takeaway habit.

Nithun Puvirajasingan weighed 22st 6lb at his heaviest after spending £25 per day on fast food.

He used to plough his way through 6000 calories daily until he decided to change his ways in December 2021.

Now Nithun of Harrow, London, who weighs 11st 3lbs, gleams with pride as he shows off his slender physique.

The 25-year-old student documented his journey which shows his epic transformation from an XXXL to an extra small.

He said: “I was a fit guy, who played rugby and went to the gym, until the lockdowns in March 2020.

“I completely fell off the wagon when everything shut down. I felt lost and turned to food for comfort.

“I still can’t believe I let my diet spiral so badly out of control.”

Nithun admits using food as an ‘escape from reality’ and ate takeaways daily.

He used to spend approximately £25 per day on fast food which would always be washed down with a fizzy drink.

He said: “I was working in my family's convenience store and surrounded by food.

“My breakfast was usually a microwave Cornish pasty and sausage roll followed by a flapjack.

“Then I would order a large fillet burger meal with five wings and an extra piece of chicken from KFC for lunch.

“For dinner, I would order Singapore fried rice, fried pork ribs, chicken wings and hot and sour soup from a Chinese takeaway and then eat a pot noodle and steak slice.

“Even though I’d feel sick by what I had eaten, I still would eat around 500 to 600 grams of rice with a home made curry when I got home.”

After 20 months, Nithun decided enough was enough and made a gym in his garage.

He said: “I was drowning myself with food and it was taking its toll.

“I refused to see friends as I was ashamed and hated myself. My blood sugar levels were high and I felt so unhealthy.

“I remember thinking I need to change my lifestyle before it is too late. Even speaking on the phone was a task as I was so unhealthy.”

Nithun recalls his first few workouts being difficult but he was determined to lose weight.

By January 2022, he had dropped down to 11st 6lbs.

He adds: “I was working out four to five times per week.

“I was weak as hell but I didn’t give up.”

Now, he is 11st 3lbs and couldn’t be happier.

He said: “I am building muscle and want to get stronger.

“My life is so different now, I love it. People think I am vain as I can’t stop looking at myself but it’s because I am still in complete shock.

“I am so proud of myself and I want to help other overweight men. It’s so hard to slip into a dark hole of depression and use food as a coping mechanism.

“My heart goes out to all men and women who are going through this. But if I can change my lifestyle then anyone can.”

Nithun's food diary recorded his eating habits before and after his diet change.
