STUC donates £1000 to The National's fundraiser for Medical Aid for Palestinians

SCOTLAND’S largest trade union body has endorsed The National’s fundraiser on behalf of Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP).

The Scottish Trades Union Congress - STUC - pledged £1000 to support humanitarian aid getting into Gaza.

MAP is one of the only organisations which is able to provide aid on the ground in Gaza.

Despite the ceasefire, Gaza’s healthcare system is barely surviving. And according to the British Red Cross, the collapsed health system and its consequences could kill more people than the conflict itself – with only 16 of Gaza's 36 hospitals operational and just 1822 hospital beds available according to the WHO.

Meanwhile, Israel still continues to block vital humanitarian aid and ordered all of Gaza's electricity supply to be cut off yesterday.

STUC General Secretary Roz Foyer said: “Yet again, The National is stepping up where our political leaders have failed. They have been unparalleled in their support for the people of Palestine. Their latest fundraiser for MAP - uniting trade unions, political parties and others throughout Scotland - shows how committed pressure from media outlets can be a force for good in our world.

“We stand with the Palestinian people. Donating to this fundraiser is an obligation to all who wish to see peace, support and aid given to all those innocents caught amongst the violence.  We pledge £1000 and would encourage all those who can afford to do so to give what they can for those who need it most.”

The National is encouraging its readers to donate (click the banner above) what they can and help raise money directly to MAP using this link.

Everything you donate will go straight to this organisation’s crucial work.
