Armstrong has made just 11 appearances for his club since moving across the pond last year, scoring two goals and assisting as many.
MLS sides are currently preparing to return for the 2025 season, although Armstrong could soon be on the move.
He spent three and a half successful years in Scotland with Celtic, making 144 appearances and registering 53 goal contributions.
Armstrong won eight trophies with the Parkhead club, including an invincible treble under Brendan Rodgers.
He could now be set for a return to the British Isles and would reunite with Danny Rohl at Hillsborough, whom he worked with at Southampton.
The transfer deadline in the UK is on Monday, February 3 at 11pm.
