Struggling Mets Make Pete Alonso Injured List Decision After He Was Hit on Wrist

Mets star first baseman Pete Alonso is hitting the injured list after being hit on the wrist by a pitch on Wednesday during the team’s game against the Braves, the team announced Friday afternoon.

New York revealed that Alonso, 28, has been diagnosed with a bone bruise and a sprain on his left wrist. The team added that the specific injury typically requires approximately three-to-four weeks of recovery.

The news comes amid a potential career season for Alonso, as well as a brutal stretch for his team.

The New York slugger leads all of baseball with 22 home runs, three clear of his Yankees counterpart Aaron Judge. He is also fifth in baseball with 49 RBIs.

After sweeping the Phillies at the start of the month, the Mets have now dropped six straight, being swept by both the Blue Jays and Braves. At 30–33, they’ve slipped into fourth place in the NL East and 8.5 games back of Atlanta for the division lead.
