German airline Eurowings has cancelled hundreds of flights because of a pilots strike. The carrier, which is a subsidiary of Lufthansa, said around half of its usual 500 flights would be cancelled today (October 6).
The action mostly affects flights in Germany. But the effects are also being felt in airports around Europe, including in Stockholm, Prague and Majorca.
Pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit is seeking improved working conditions, asking for the maximum number of flying hours to be reduced. The union announced industrial action after talks with management stalled.
It comes after strikes at Lufthansa were averted last month. Proposed action was called off when the airline and union reached a pay deal to address the effects of inflation.
