Strictly Come Dancing winner Stacey Dooley set to join convent for new TV show

Call the Midwife may have ended but there will soon be more convent action on BBC1 - as Stacey Dooley moves in with some nuns to discover what life is like for them in the 21st century.

The presenter, in a relationship with her Strictly Come Dancing partner Kevin Clifton, is not religious and lives in a “constant state of 21st-century busyness”.

But for her new hour-long film, Stacey Dooley - Inside the Convent, she wanted to find out what is was like to slow down and connect to the rhythms of a deeper, slower, quieter and more meaningful way of being.

In the documentary she stays with the Sisters at The Order of the Holy Paraclete Anglican Religious Community, at St Hilda’s Priory in Whitby.

Stacey, 35, joins in with the strict timetable of work and contemplation to find out if there are aspects of the lifestyle that she could bring into her own. Along the way she shares meals and sings with the sisters.

Stacey tells us: “I had wanted to film in a convent for a while, so was delighted when the Sisters at St Hilda’s invited us into their home, allowing us to truly witness and experience, first hand, their way of life.

"I really do believe it can be hugely beneficial, spending time with those you wouldn’t usually. It forces you to see things from an entirely different perspective."

The TV star, from Luton, said she “thoroughly enjoyed” the experience, which will be shown on BBC1 next month.
