Strictly's Will and Nancy's 'passion and intensity' upon exit was 'too late', expert says

Will Mellor and Nancy Xu came crashing out of Strictly Come Dancing in the semi-final episode on Monday evening.

Two Pints of Lager star Will, 46, narrowly missed out on a space in the final as they were eliminated following a dance off against Fleur East and Vito Coppola.

Will and professional dancer Nancy, 31, looked incredibly emotional as they were given the news of their exit on Monday's show.

Later, the pair broke down in tears as they discussed leaving the competition and just missing out on a place in the final on Strictly Come Dancing's spin-off It Takes Two.

Will, who had hoped to lift the Glitterball trophy for his mum, told ITT host Rylan Clark: "I’m just human. I was disappointed because we’d worked so hard and gone so far in the competition. The last thing I wanted to do was get it wrong that night."

Now, body language expert Judi James has revealed that if the pair showed the 'intensity' they have following their exit in the competition, they may not have lost their place on the show...

The emotion came too late for Will and Nancy who only really discovered their ability to gel as a couple once they’d been thrown out of the competition and missed out on a place in the final.

Nancy suddenly became static, staring at the floor as Will said his goodbyes. The woman who has always seemed strong and slightly detached suddenly dissolved. Her mouth crumpled and her fingers picked away at each other in a subliminal message that she was finally about to show her vulnerable side.

She placed a hand over her face as the tears began to flow and it was Will consoling her rather than the other way round. Will’s dominance and strength versus Nancy’s new air of vulnerability was a potent combination that would have worked so well if they’d only unleashed it during their dances.

The couple had lost out thanks to what the judges called ‘micro-details’ but to the viewers it was down to Will’s wrangling with that stupid shoulder cape and his dad dancing during the second number that finished his chances off.

Suddenly though we saw some intensity from the couple who would only sit on the It Takes Two sofa with a couple of feet of space between them. For their last dance we saw Will grab Nancy’s head in both hands and press his forehead against hers. Will had been all about modesty during this competition and ‘Trying my best’.

As a result his dances lacked the passion, fire and intensity that might have made him a winner. Sadly it was too late before we got to glimpse the kind of intensity that he was clearly capable of out there on the floor.
