Strictly's Tony Adams 'told off' by partner Katya Jones in tense backstage talk

Strictly Come Dancing star Tony Adams has revealed he was "told off" by his professional partner Katya Jones ahead of Saturday night's live shows. The football legend said the dancer delivered him some "home truths" backstage which motivated him to produce his best score to date.

The football legend compared the backstage moment to a telling off from his old Arsenal boss. Speaking to Rylan Clark on Strictly's spin-off show, It Takes Two, the 56-year-old said: "The last time I've been told off like that was by George Graham and I left the dressing room."

Tony and Katya received their highest score from the judges on Saturday night. Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Craig Revel Horwood were left impressed by their American Smooth, which came one week after Tony's hilarious Full Monty routine.

However, things could have been different after Tony revealed he was "full of fear" during the dress rehearsals. He told Rylan: "I was full of fear beforehand. I had a team talk.

"She [Katya] came into my dressing room after the dress rehearsal and told me a few home truths about me holding back.

"I think she admits that maybe it could have gone either way. I could have thrown my toys out of the pram and just gone home. But I fought back the fear and stuff and I just kind of went for it."

Katya replied: "What you said is right, I took a risk. It could have fallen apart or it could have given him that extra fire in his belly.

"I took a risk because I thought that's what he needs right now. It definitely did pay off." For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
