Strictly's Tony Adams issues live apology to judge Shirley Ballas after 'go home' comment

Tony Adams has apologised to Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas after telling her to "go home" during last week's live show. The football legend took the opportunity to say sorry after dancing the quick step during Halloween Week with professional partner Katya Jones.

It comes after Tony shouted, "go home Shirley!" during last week's live show after receiving a four from the head judge. Tony and Katya had performed the cha cha cha to the iconic Grandstand theme to mark the BBC's 100 years but found themselves at the bottom of the leaderboard.

It was a different story on Saturday, October 29 as the pair took to the stage with the quick step for Halloween Week. The duo received their highest score, getting a mark of 31 from the panel in total.

Speaking to presenter Claudia Winkleman after the routine, Tony used the opportunity to apologise for his remarks live on the BBC One show. He said: "I've got to say to Shirley, as well, you know, I made a comment last week, I ain't got a clue.

"I accept a four, I accept an eight it doesn't really matter, I don't understand. But I've got to apologise for my comment."

He added: "Listen, don't go home Shirley, you can stay, because she is Strictly."

It comes after Tony spoke about how he reacts to the judges earlier this week on Strictly's spin-off It Takes Two. He said: "When they started making comments I got a bit reactive. It is no disrespect to them it is just my way of going 'go away.' I'm a beginner and at times I don't do the right moves and stuff." For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
