Strictly Come Dancing 's Tony Adams apologised to judge Shirley Ballas during Saturday evening’s live show, after he told her to ‘go home’.
The Strictly contestant became embroiled in controversy last week during the judges scoring of Tony’s cha-cha, which he performed with partner Katya Jones to the Grandstand theme tune. Tony's routine left head judge Shirley critical of his missteps as she said: “You are a ray of sunshine, but below the knee it just rains.”
When Shirley Ballas scored him a '4', Tony was seen on camera heckling: “Shirley! Go home!!” Tony's landed in bottom place with 19, but managed to avoid the dreaded dance-off thanks to viewers’ votes.
However, following his quickstep to The Devil Went Down to Georgia by The Charlie Daniels band, Tony told host Claudia Winkleman in the post-dance interview: “I've got to say to Shirley – I made a comment last week. I ain't got a clue. I accept a four, I accept an eight.
“It doesn't really matter. I don't understand. I listen to her [Katya], but I've got to apologise for my comment. Listen, don't go home Shirley. You can stay, because she is Strictly.”
Strictly Come Dancing embraced the spooky season on Saturday night as the BBC One ballroom dancing show returned for a Halloween spectacular. Hosts Tess Daly and Claudia introduced the Halloween special under the watchful eye of judges Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke.
Ahead of the show, the BBC released a video revealing the contestants' songs and dances for the upcoming Halloween special, with tunes ranging from Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill to the Hocus Pocus hit I Put A Spell on You as well as the Scooby Doo theme.
The sixth week of Strictly again saw the leaderboard shake-up following a number of shock exits so far this series, meaning nobody is safe from elimination as the remaining couples danced live for viewers' votes.
As the remaining Strictly contestants fought to impress the judging panel, Hamza Yassin was the one to watch, as he sat at the top of the leaderboard going into the weekend, followed by Helen Skelton and Fleur East.
This comes after the Strictly dance floor said goodbye to another celebrity last Sunday night, with Jayde Adams losing to Molly Rainford in the dreaded dance-off and becoming the fourth contestant to leave the competition.
*Strictly Come Dancing returns on Sunday at 7.20pm on BBC One.
