Strictly's Tony Adams 'forced' to apologise after 'go home Shirley' comment

Tony Adams made his feelings known on strictly last week with an outburst that was caught on camera. This week, however, there was an apology to Shirley Ballas, and fans had something to say about that.

BBC's Strictly Come Dancing is often a hot bed for opinion and, last week, the former England player disagreed with the judges' scores. He was spotted shouting 'Shirley, Go home' after seeing with score card from the head judge. Tony and professional dance partner Katya Jones received a 'four' for their cha cha.

This week, however, it was Halloween week and the former footballer had shown off his fancy footwork with an Argentine Tango. The scores were better totting up to 31 out of 40 rather than last week's meagre 17 but it was what some are calling a 'forced apology' that got tongues wagging.

During the post dance interview with Claudia Winkleman, he said: 'I've got to say to Shirley, I made a comment last week, I ain't got a clue - I'll accept a four and I'll accept an eight it doesn't really matter, I don't understand." Then pointing to Katya said: "I listen to her."

He went on: "But I've got to apologise for my comment. Listen, don't go home, Shirley you can stay - because she is Strictly." However, fans think Tony was forced to make the apology. One person taking to social media wrote: "He was definitely forced to apologise by the show’s bosses because too many people are telling Shirley to go home for real". Another said: "What’s Tony saying for?? I am sure Shirley wasn’t bothered it’s just the @BBCOne covering themselves".

While another added: "Can’t believe he apologised after the way they ridiculed him". Others joined in the conversation: "Don’t apologise Tony! Most of us wish Shirley would go home too #Strictly". But others didn't agree: "and most want her to stay ..", replied one social media user to the follow Twitter users comment.

And support for the couple continued. Recently voted-off contestant Jayde Adams, tweeted: "I’m telling you, Tony Adams for the win." The Strictly journey continues for Tony and Katya as the couple bagged their best score yet and stayed in the competition for another week.
