Strictly's Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman hit by fan 'backlash' moments into Halloween special

Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman sparked the same complaints from unimpressed Strictly Come Dancing viewers, just moments after they appeared on screen for the Halloween special. And the focus of fans' anger was the fact that the two hosts didn't get into the theme with their outfits.

After a spoof horror film style opening involving the remaining contestants, Tess and Claudia appeared in the BBC ballroom to kick off the latest Strictly live show and introduce the judges, who all looked very much the part with their spooky makeovers, including Craig Revel-Horwood and Shirley Ballas, who were transformed into Mortitia and Gomez Addams respectively. However, while both wore dark outfits, Tess and Claudia weren't in any form of Halloween costume and it didn't take long for people watching at home to call them out on what they were wearing.

This year wasn't the first Halloween special where Tess and Claudia haven't dressed for the occasion and, just like in series gone by, Twitter was full of complaints from viewers making their feelings very clear. One posted: "Did they run out of Halloween costumes at @bbcstrictly??? Why aren't Tess and Claudia not wearing anything Halloween? Not even a hair accessory...." Equally annoyed at the presenters, a second tweeted: " #StrictlyComeDancing Halloween Special, tbf any special, celebs and dancers get into it, judges get into it, Dave Arch and his band get into it, Tess and Claudia?? F**k do they. Boring S*ds."

A third reacted: "Tess and Claudia probably get paid more per episode than I earn a year and for a Halloween special they’re wearing a black dress and sparkly boots." However, offering some defence to Tess and Claudia and suggesting a reason why they weren't in costume again, another Twitter user commented: "Claudia's daughter got badly burned whilst out trick or treating when her outfit caught fire. Tess nor Claudia have worn Halloween outfits since," before replying to another Strictly fan to write: "Her young daughter was scarred for life, but yeah Claudia should just get over it and Tess should dress up just to please you. Seriously what are you on?"

And, another fan couldn't get enough of Tess and Claudia's outfits, tweeting: "After not bothering with #Strictly for the past few weeks. I decided I had to watch Halloween week, as it's always my favourite. Craig has already stolen the show and I can't decide whose shoes I want more Claudia's green heels or Tess's sparkly boots."
