Shirley Ballas made a rather unexpected move on Strictly Come Dancing this weekend by siding with her fellow judges, after two weeks of ‘going against' their decisions. However, her comment on she was saving Kym Marsh was called out by some puzzled viewers at home.
Former world dance champion Shirley is once again head judge for the new series of the much loved BBC show, sitting on the panel alongside Craig Revel-Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and National Television Award winner Anton Du Beke. But, while she is often in agreement with her co-stars when it comes to feedback for the celebrity dancers, the first two results shows saw her given opposite opinions when it came to who to keep in competition.
When both Kaye Adams and Richie Anderson were voted off, Shirley told Strictly host Tess Daly she’s have kept them in, although the result was already out of her hands on those two occasions after the other three judges had all voted the other way. Last week Shirley was on the receiving end of a backlash from some viewers, after declaring she’d have saved Richie over rival Fleur East, with fans condemning her decision.

However, there was to be no controversy or disagreement for the head judge this week as, after Matt Goss and Kym Marsh landed in the dreaded dance-off, Shirley opted to save Kym, following on from her colleagues also making the same call.
Shirley said she was saving Kym on the basis of her and pro partner Graziano Di Prima being “slightly more technical,” a reason that didn’t go down too well with viewers online. Reacting to it on Twitter, one posted: “Matt Goss dances like a piece of cooked spaghetti & Shirley reckons Kym only had a slightly more technical dance??? u ok hun?”
In agreement a second tweeted: “ The couple with a little bit more technical skill" - Shirley Ballas almost reluctantly saving Kym. Seriously? She was miles ahead of Matt."
