Strictly's Rylan Clark sets record straight after confused fans think show has signed up a PARROT for 2022 series

Strictly Come Dancing's Rylan Clark has set the record straight after fans believed a parrot had been signed up the 2022 series of the BBC One dance contest. The host of spin-off show It Takes Two spoke out after the parody Twitter account @bbcstructly posted a joke 'announcement' that Chanel the African grey parrot, who went viral during lockdown in 2020, had joined the line-up.

The post, with a picture of Chanel and the show's ' daaaa daaaa da' reveal music, read: "She’s an African Grey. She flew towards the canal But is she our next Strictly champion? Breaking out of her cage and into the ballroom and hoping these boots are made for squarking', as we welcome Chanel the African Grey Parrot to #Strictly."

Chanel the parrot became a viral sensation last year after she went missing in Liverpool, leading to her owner Sandra Hannah screaming her name 'CHANELLLLL' in the street in a bid to find her. She went missing again last year and was found a mile away from her house.

The hilarious tweet was shared by Rylan, but he felt moved to speak out after noticing that some viewers believed a parrot would be taking to the famous dancefloor this autumn alongside celebrities including Kym Marsh and Will Mellor. @Rylan said: "For anyone that genuinely thought we had signed a PARROT up for strictly…. God bless x"

@NickyOgden1976 replied: "You even had me thinking, lol." But @TyrellTyler7 said: "Nothing surprises me nowadays." The much-loved contest is set to return to our screens in a matter of weeks with the launch show being filmed during the first week of September.

The dancing juggernaut will return with a bunch of new famous faces challenged to learn the difference between the cha-cha-cha and the Charleston. And Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman will be back to host the show on Saturday nights.

Anton Du Beke will take his place again on the judging panel alongside Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel Horwood and head judge Shirley Ballas. While there's no exact return date yet, what we do know is the launch show is being recorded on Wednesday September 7.
